Here it Sits
I've been thinking about keeping a record of my daily life a lot lately. Even though I'm not really exciting, I think it would help to keep me in the present. And it is important to stay in the present, even if it is boring. Because, and you can ask Sherman Alexie about this, "[y]our past is a skeleton walking one step behind you, and your future is a skeleton walking one step in front of you. Maybe you don't wear a watch, but your skeletons do, and they always know what time it is."

I don't remember the rest of that or how it is relevant.

Ok wait, I just found the rest of the quote: "Now, these skeletons are made of memories, dreams, and voices. And they can trap you in the in-between, between touching and becoming. But they’re not necessarily evil, unless you let them be." Now it's relevant. So aside from worrying about the future or reminiscing too much about the past, I find that I can't remember large swaths of time in my life. And I do not mean I don't remember what happened when I was five years old. I mean I cannot remember what my life was like two years ago. Was I happy or sad? Did I like what I was doing, and what did I even do? All that time! GONE! Like it didn't happen!! Of course it did happen, and I'm hoping I learned some good things that made me a better person, but I don't remember if I did. So I am thinking that the process of keeping records will help make events more lasting. So to speak. Also, I am a terrible speller since I graduated. Maybe this project will help me with that, too.

SO, here's what's happening today, O Diary:

Billy, who is of course my husband, and I are getting our dog trained and today was his first lesson, which, of course, was a private lesson in the comfort of our own dumpy rental home. He was a shining star, out there in the driveway. It was raining and there was a flock of the blackest grackles you've ever seen, making their way through the ankle-high spring grass. Which was beak-high on the grackles. I mention this because he didn't even chase them. WAY TO GO, BUSTER!

Also, Billy was unable to hook up the VCR so we could watch A BRIEF HISTORY OF TIME. This VCR belongs to my brother. We don't own such an obsolete piece of machinery, but I wish we did because I would like to have a collection of VHS romantic comedies from the 1990s.

I went to the grocery store twice to get ingredients for a delicious meal that I will prepare momentarily. Maybe we can have someone over to help us eat it all.
